Akshay
Tritiya : Festival of Shopping
As i start my blog on this auspicious day of
Akshay Tritiya feeling energised after a hectic day with my two kids and
evening shopping with my husband at a local shopping mall i greet all the
senior bloggers here with hope and humble assurance that its just a small
effort from my side as i had been planning to post for quite sometime.
As i got married also on this occasion of Akshay Tritiya only so i owe a lot to this day as per the Hindu Calendar. Marriage on this day is quite sought-after among the Hindus. As the name denotes; Akshay means ever-lasting/never diminishing Tritiya ( a tithi/day as per Hindu calendar). It is considered as a day when stars are in a favourable combination to start any new venture be it business, marriage, construction or accumulation of wealth. Charity and Worship on this day are also considered to be ever-lasting with multiplier effect.
Akshay Tritiya is also known as Akha-Teej and it is believed that Lord Parasurama the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born on this day. It is also believed that River Ganges came to earth on this very day.Lord Ganesha started to write the great epic Mahabharata with Ved Vyas. This day is considered so much important that it is never absent in the lunar calendar while other days may be ( a practice adopted in Hindu calendar to balance the number of days in a year like a leap year adjusts one day in the gregorian calendar).

This day got so much associated with wealth and
gold as Lord Kubera got his wealth and became the custodian of wealth on this
day. In these times this festival has been commercialised like anything and
most successful to reap the profits are the jewellers and banks who sell gold
like anything. The fallen prices of gold have revived owing to this day and
Gold ETFs (gold in electronic form) also recorded a considerable turnover on
the stock exchange.
Even though
i wanted to purchase some precious metal/small jewellery as a token for this
day but could not manage to reach in time due to some hours spent in the shopping
mall in purchasing of garments. Now as the day comes to an end i wonder whether
shopping of garments on Akshay Tritiya is as ominous as shopping of Gold. Maybe
yes as the result depends on our Karma and our efforts decide our destiny...
